I recently attended a seminar on Medicare hosted by our strategic partner, Mediconnect. Quick plug before I continue, the people at Mediconnect are awesome. They are knowledgeable and make a confusing topic easy to understand. If you are approaching Medicare age, I highly recommend attending one of their seminars or giving them a call. You won’t regret it. A link to their website is below.
Once the presentation ended there was a Q&A session. Individuals began to ask questions that you could tell were unique to their own situation. “My husband is still working, and I am about to turn 65, what should I do?” “I am retired but still covered under my previous employer’s health insurance, do I need to sign up for Medicare?” This went on for about 10 minutes, and they were all excellent and valid questions.
A woman then raised her hand and simply asked “Everyone’s situation is different, isn’t it?”
The perfect question for the setting. And it’s not really a question at all. This is a statement of fact. We all know the answer. The room was silent for a few moments, and that was the end of the session. Mic drop.
You are unique. Your health care situation is unique. Your financial situation is unique. It’s what makes the world turn. It’s also a little… scary. That’s why there was silence after the question. If everyone in that room had the same scenario and there was a one-size fits all solution, things would be easy! But that isn’t the case. We need to research and figure out what works best for us. This takes time and can be intimidating. We don’t want to make the wrong decisions.
Financial advisors (and Medicare partners) can play an important role in taking this uncertainty off your plate. They should be sitting down, getting to know you, and running a plan that is tailored to your specific needs. I worked in the financial planning department for five years and wrote over one thousand plans. No two were the same.
Everyone’s situation IS different. Get a MASTERPLAN so you can have your questions answered.
