It was the summer of weddings for the Montgomery Group. First, our Client Assistant, Melissa, got married on June 3rd to her husband Todd:

Then, it was my turn. I married my beautiful wife, Sarah, on June 17th:

After going through the process, I can confidently say that financial planning is less stressful than wedding planning. Admittedly I didn’t have to do much wedding planning myself. I sat back and watched as Sarah made countless phone calls to vendors and coordinated our entire day. Seeing what she went through to make everything perfect solidified to me that I am maintaining my status as a Certified Financial Planner vs. a Certified Wedding Planner.
When we meet with clients and ask about goals, funding a wedding often comes up. Our team hears about many different types of goals, whether it be a wedding, new home, or a big vacation. After experiencing my own wedding and how special the entire day was, it put into perspective how important these goals are. They are meaningful moments in a client’s life. Are they always easy to achieve financially? Not exactly. But if a client mentions a goal, it should not be taken lightly. It is something that has been on their mind and is important to them.
As their financial advisor, it is our job to help client’s reach their goals as effectively as possible. We must outline a plan that shows the client what they need to do to make the goal attainable. If the goal isn’t attainable (which can happen), we need to show them what is reasonable within their financial situation. No matter the case, each goal needs to be taken seriously, and we need to show the client what it would take to be achieved.
My own wedding was a nice reminder that we are helping clients capture very special moments, and we need to get to work so they know how to best fulfill their dreams .
